Assessment and Personalization: The Annex Method
May 29th, 2013
As strength coaches we have to assess. You cannot assume. Many athletes may go through their high school and college careers under the tutelage of a strength coach, who oftentimes is stretched thin. These coaches are in charge of a large group of athletes so they don’t have time or the ability to give true individual attention to each athlete’s training program. Their hands are tied. There’s only so much they can do.
That’s where Annex Sports Performance comes in to help. Our knowledge and detailed functional assessment gives our training staff the ability to spot any weaknesses in our athletes. Through the information from these assessments we are able to prescribe corrective exercises and a strength program that corrects any muscular imbalances and other deficiencies. We address and shore up weak points in an individual athlete before we start adding a strength program and other components that people associate with training such as plyometrics or extensive speed and agility programs.
The Annex philosophy also heavily weighs the seasonal cycle of our athletes’ sport. So, for instance, our football players work very hard on building absolute strength during the off season so that during the season they can run hard and devote all their energy to perfecting speed and movement. The body’s central nervous system can only handle a certain amount of stress before it breaks down, and we make sure that stress is managed correctly, all year long.
By the time our athletes’ season starts they will be ready physically giving them the confidence to excel. They won’t be worried about their strength or conditioning levels. Training at Annex removes this sort of anxiety from the equation so that our students can focus simply on playing their sport.
If you want to elevate your performance levels, the first step is to discover your weakest points. Not only will we pinpoint the areas you need to work on, we can transform those to be your strengths.
